It has been a good 2 years that Profhilo has penetrated into our Malaysian shores. Being a relatively new player in the aesthetic industry, profhilo has created many interest amongst both aesthetic practitioners and their clients looking to enhancing their appearance. The NAHYCO technology that the manufacturer boasts is indeed an amazing breakthrough as it combines high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) without any other chemical links, making it a 100% pure HA product with a total concentration of 64mg (wow!) in a syringe (an average filler only has ~20-25mg/ml).

What does HA do?

Hyaluronic Acid is a molecule that's readily available in our skin dermis. It has the ability to draw up to 1000x its molecular weight of water to enhance skin hydration. Higher molecular weight HA locks water in the skin while low molecular weight HA promotes an optimal environment for skin collagen regeneration and repair.

Although we have it in our skin naturally, many factors leads to the loss of HA. One of the major causes are UV rays. With all the goodness of endogenous Vit D production from UV light exposure, UV rays also lead to an increase in the activity of matrix metalloproteinases and hyaluronidase enzymes that naturally breaks down our hyaluronic acid and dermal collagen structures leading to photo-aging of the skin.

I am already using HA in my skincare and masks! I don't need injections...

Yes, while HA is found in many skincare products, in order for HA to be able to penetrate through the skin barrier layers, they need to be in nano-particles. The small or low molecular weight HA is able to enhance skin regeneration and repair. However, being such small molecules, it is readily absorbed and also removed from our skin by our hyaluronidase enzymes, making it ineffective for the benefit of skin hydration. Injectables are thus, superior to deliver high molecular weight HA into the skin to really give your skin the hydration it needs. Profhilo does great in this category. Besides, with its highly researched Bio Aesthetic Points for the face, you'll only need 5 injection points per side of the face to get both hydration and collagen stimulation for a hydro facelift.

Now that we've established the benefits of getting a Profhilo treatment, here are 5 reasons you should not get Profhilo.

  1. You are having an active skin infection at the planned treatment area.

  2. You have had a severe allergic reaction to previous hyaluronic acid based fillers or skin booster injections.

  3. You are currently pregnant.

  4. You are currently breastfeeding.

  5. Your skin is too laxed that you would better benefit from a surgical face-lift.

If the above reasons does not apply to you, then there's no reason you should not consider getting a Profhilo treatment.
